Our First Post!
Blogging from the Boreal Forest…..

Last summer, while paddling the quiet waters around Forest House, walking its hiking trails, or sitting on the deck drinking in the view, the furthest thing from anyone’s mind had to be “Blogging”. To be perfectly honest, none of us really knew much about “Blogging”, its purpose, its logistics, and its value. As the summer drew to a close, we began to realize, that even though we have a website, (www.foresthouse.ca), we wanted to find a way to to communicate with our friends, past clients and new friends on a more personal level. In an effort to accomplish this, we decided to give “Blogging” a try. So,….. here we go!
A New Experience…..
The summer of 2009 taught us many things. As new owners of Forest House, we were faced with many challenges such as:
- learning how to operate the infrastructure of Forest House proper – the solar-powered electrical grid; the plumbing system; composting procedures; all the things that keep our guests comfortable during their stay with us
- tending to the organic flower and vegetable gardens
- maintaining and developing the network of hiking trails throughout the area
- creating a diverse menu based on ingredients from our gardens and the forest
- ensuring our guests were able to get to Forest House, by air, or by canoe, easily and efficiently
- and….. above all, making certain our guests had the BEST Boreal Forest experience we could provide
All in all, we are very pleased with our first season of operations. As with everything, there is always room for improvement, and we have already began making plans for upgrades, refinements, and some new additions. What is very encouraging to us is that the positive aspects of the 2009 season far outweigh the negative. It is our sincere desire to continue to refine and improve the way we do things, always with the underlying interest of taking care of our guests in the best possible way.
Many New Friends…..
Last summer, many interesting and wonderful people stayed with us at Forest House. There were honeymooners from the west coast, newcomers to Canada, originally from Finland, young people, old people, photographers, musicians, professionals….. a diverse bunch, to be sure. It goes without saying we are somewhat biased when it comes to our love of the Forest House area, and the lush Boreal Forest that surrounds it. What amazed us, were the comments of the majority of this summer’s visitors.
“Surreal….. magical….. mystical….. a jewel….. a gem”, were terms commonly used to describe time spent at Forest House. This is very encouraging to us, it reinforces our belief that Forest House is a special and unique place to Rejuvenate….. Relax….. and Re-connect!
Waiting for Next Summer…..
As we write this, Mother Nature is putting the Boreal Forest to sleep for a few months. She decided to do so very early this year, but who are we to question her wisdom? One thing is for certain – when the Boreal awakes from her deep rest, she will explode with beauty, grace, and the wonders she provides to those who take the time to care.
Thank you to all who visited us last summer. We hope you learned as much from us as we did from you, and we invite you to keep in touch.
Relatively Painless…..
Thus, our first post to our first “Blog” comes to an end – not so bad! It barely hurt at alll!
